Mitsubishi Chemical America’s Battery Materials Group is the world leader in electrolyte battery materials for electric cars and beyond. Located in Memphis, Tennessee, the Battery Materials Group is a fully integrated company for Sol-Rite™ formulated electrolytes used for lithium-ion batteries. Unique formulations are designed to meet customer needs and optimize battery performance. The Sol-Rite™ electrolyte formulation mainly consists of organic solvents such as ethylene carbonate and lithium salt electrolytes such as LiPF6. In addition, patented technologies and know-how are incorporated into the formulations to control the solid electrolyte interface on the cathode and anode.
Supervise and participate in laboratory work necessary to ensure products are tested per operating procedures. Ensure work is carried out in an efficient and safe manner. Utilizes judgement in making adaption and modifications on all assignments.
- Supervise the daily activities of the Quality Control (QC) laboratory by establishing testing priorities and schedule assignments of staff
- Investigate performance failures within lab team. This includes the initial investigation and fact finding as well as assisting with follow up measures as required
- Oversee lab coordinator review of analytical results according to company standards
- Assist with quality assurance and complaint investigations to include timely testing for complaint response. Perform 8D or 5 Why investigations based on the customer outlined investigation procedure.
- Ensure routine maintenance and troubleshooting is being performed on laboratory equipment thru the lab coordinator.
- Become lead IATF auditor for BMD. Supervise and oversee the internal/ external audits and scheduling and maintaining the IATF certification for BMD. Responsible for ensuring internal audit occur according to the outlined schedule.
- Oversee the site process in accordance with the IATF certification.
- Review and update all customer specifications for products and supplier raw materials. Work with MUIS on ensuring all specifications are current and applicable.
- Oversee the maintenance of the LIMS and Document Control databases in conjunction with the Senior Quality Systems Specialist.
- Work with internal/external department heads on plant production for optimum production output.
- Must possess good organizational skills, strong computer skills, the ability to work well with others, strong decision making skills, and the ability to negotiate in the best interest of the company
- Excellent Oral and written communication, ability to effectively present to senior management
- Must have certification in ISO 9001:2015 and IATF 16949
- Must be PC proficient including Microsoft, Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook.
- Ability to work independently and under time constraints
- Familiar with SPC and Statistical Software Tools
- Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.

- BA or BS in Chemistry/Biology preferred or equivalent 7 years laboratory Supervisory experience working in an chemical manufacturing industry
- Experience working with analytical instrumentations, such as High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC), and Gas Chromatography (GC), IC, ICP and Moisture analyzer.
- Managing internal inventory control of QC supplies.
- The salary range for this position is $85,100 - $89,800. Factors such as scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, job-related skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and business considerations may influence base pay offered. This salary will be subject to a geographic adjustment (according to a specific city and state), if an authorization is granted to work outside of the location listed in this posting.
