Mitsubishi Chemical Advanced Materials Division is seeking a Composites Engineer based in Mesa, AZ to join a team committed to excellence, continuous improvement and driving sustainable business results. The mission of this individual is to work within a cross-functional team to explore and develop new business opportunities, validate new technology platforms, and support introduction and commercialization of new products across a range of market sectors. The Engineer must have a deep level of knowledge pertaining to fiber reinforced composite materials, processing and part manufacturing techniques, material characterization, analysis techniques, and certification standards. The position requires the application of fundamental and advanced technical principles to complex materials and process issues, drawing from the areas of design, mechanical engineering, material science, and data analytics. MCAM is a manufacturing services company.  We service markets including aerospace, medical, semiconductor and other markets.  Our capabilities include carbon fiber processing, compounding, molding, extrusion, machining, fabrication, assembly, and inspection.  We provide material solutions, engineering support, stock shapes, near net shapes, precision components, and assemblies.

What You Will Do...

  • Evaluate technical and environmental requirements and can design carbon fiber composite structures
  • Must have knowledge in lay-up and multi-layer composite structure design
  • Recommend engineering actions to attain design objectives by applying knowledge of product design and materials to derive at a solution proposal
  • Engage directly with customer engineering personnel and project teams to understand application requirements, develop proposals, and conduct composite materials and process certification, testing, and manufacturing implementation programs
  • Work closely with the MCAM R&D and Commercial and Marketing teams on new opportunities, and develop composite based solutions
  • Manage multiple customer projects from start to finish including estimating hours, costs and schedules and ensuring projects are executed to customer requirements
  • Prepare product and process reports by collecting, analyzing and summarizing information
  • Correlate the designs with actual prototyping, to ensure the design systems are reliable and robust
  • Assist with composite material characterization, supporting design for producibility, material selection, quality control, and new material development
  • Provide ongoing engineering assistance to Production Operations during technology transition and scale-up, including troubleshooting of process problems, conducting special testing campaigns, and developing detailed project reports
  • Create and maintain composite process documentation and test reports
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

What You Will Have...

  • Minimum BS in materials science, mechanical engineering, industrial engineering, manufacturing engineering or similar
  • 5+ yrs experience working in composites and advanced manufacturing
  • Knowledge of thermoplastic and thermoset materials
  • Knowledge of composite laminate theory and optimal fiber alignment
  • Must have background and expertise in material process development with emphasis on manufacturing scale-up to enable launch of commercially successful products
  • Demonstrated applied knowledge of polymer science, process characterization, process-component performance relationships and materials processing is required
  • Experience reviewing engineering drawings and providing guidance to design, stress and manufacturing engineers
