Mitsubishi Chemical America, Inc. SoarnoL division is located in La Porte, Texas, and specializes in SoarnoL Ethylene Vinyl Alcohol Copolymer (EVOH). Additional manufacturing facilities for SoarnoL are located in Japan and the United Kingdom.

Noltex was formed in June of 1994 and purchased an idled Du Pont EVOH manufacturing facility in La Porte. Noltex began production of SoarnoL resin in early 1996 after retrofitting the first of our plant’s production lines.

Our plant primarily serves the needs of the North and South American markets, and supplements product needs in Oceania, Asia, and Europe. With a total annual production capacity of 38,000 metric tons, our EVOH product line includes a wide variety of specialty SoarnoL grades in order to better meet the increased demand for this unique gas barrier resin.

Job Purpose

The objective of the Operations Trainer position is to effectively develop, implement, manage, and deliver the training, development, and evaluation of MCA-SNL operators. The Operations Trainer ensures the workforce has the knowledge, skills, comprehension and qualifications necessary to operate and control the production units and systems in compliance with all government regulatory requirements, site and corporate EHS standards, and meet EHS, OEE, quality, and cost targets.

The MCA-SNL site consists of the Manufacturing and Distillation units and systems that operate continuously, 24 hours per day, 365 days per year. A rotating operating shift team along with various other daily production positions has full responsibility for operating the plant. There are various operator roles and responsibilities on each shift and operators must master the duties of each as they rotate through the various positions. 

The safety, health, training and development of the operators are the key focus areas for the Operations Trainer position.  This position plays a major role in the company and plant site meeting its safety, environmental, production, quality, equipment reliability, yield and business objectives which ensures the long-term competitiveness of the SoarnoL business.

Principal Accountabilities
  • Define the KSAs (knowledge, skills and abilities) required for operations associates.
  • Assist shift supervisors with gap analysis of operator KSAs.
  • Create and maintain talent development plans to fill gaps and improve competence for each person within area of responsibility. Track and report progress.
  • Develop and maintain operations training and validation materials. Monitor effectiveness of process operations training content and methods. Deliver continuous improvement of the plant production training strategy and drive process knowledge and skills throughout the organization to support achievement of EHS, production, quality, and cost objectives.
  • Conduct process-specific training and evaluations for operations, and other personnel. Complete revalidation training and qualification certifications for operation personnel. Ensure operations personnel are certified as qualified with the required KSAs and proper documentation before performing work.
  • Train all operations personnel on troubleshooting and operation.
  • Ensure compliance with all company standards and laws applicable to operations training.
  • Provide all operations training requirements and completion documentation to the operations coordinator to maintain site training needs and completions
Knowledge / Skills / Experience

The position requires training personnel to work with hazardous chemicals and equipment so that a strong commitment to HSE and operational discipline is an absolute must.  To be successful, the Operations Trainer must be a good communicator, leader, planner and organizer so that plant EHS, production and cost commitments are achieved through the direct work of others. The Operations Trainer spends a great deal of time in the field and is required to know process equipment and its operation very well.

The Operations Trainer must have extensive knowledge of the EVOH process, DCS, equipment and procedures in addition to working knowledge of the EHS standards.

  • The job holder should possess 10-15 years of experience in operations experience in our EVOH process.
  • The individual must have the ability to think analytically, show initiative, seek critical information, be tenacious, show concern for impact, be flexible, be thorough and have concern for standards.
  • The job holder must have a sound grasp of fundamental mechanical and/or production principles and their practical application in a manufacturing environment in order to motivate trainees to achieve assigned tasks to meet the plant’s objectives with high productivity and safety.
  • The job holder must possess effective communication and presentation skills in addition to coaching, leadership and team building skills for developing strong self-reliant teams.
  • The job holder must demonstrate good general computer and spreadsheet skills.

  • The salary range for this position is $50.00 - $50.00. Factors such as scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, job-related skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and business considerations may influence base pay offered. This salary will be subject to a geographic adjustment (according to a specific city and state), if an authorization is granted to work outside of the location listed in this posting.
