Mitsubishi Chemical Carbon Fiber and Composites (MCCFC) is composed of several companies, but at its core there are two. In April 2013, two California Companies, Grafil, a carbon fiber manufacturer in Sacramento and Newport Adhesives and Composites, a prepreg manufacturer in Irvine, were merged to create Mitsubishi Rayon Carbon Fiber and Composites (MRCFAC); then in 2017, we re-branded to MCCFC. Since our merge, we have made multiple acquisitions within the United States. In addition to these acquisitions, we have continued to improve and expand our current facility’s capabilities. Job Purpose

A Plant Engineer is responsible for working with maintenance, technical and production management to improve safety and to ensure equipment is functioning properly and efficiently.  This includes planning, designing and installing new equipment and/or revising existing equipment and systems for the purpose of improving safety, efficiency, reliability, capacity, and cost effectiveness.  The Plant Engineer also possesses working knowledge and hand on experience with factory automation using Allen Bradely PLC.

Principal Accountabilities
  • Responsible for working with maintenance, technical and production management to improve safety and minimize downtime due to unscheduled stoppages.
  • Assess and analyze production operations to identify and develop new and improved chemical manufacturing processes including the production of epoxy adhesive systems, adhesives films and composite materials.
  • Assist with planning and implementation include the design, layout, and working with those engaged in constructing, controlling and improving our chemical processing and manufacturing equipment.
  • Lead major and minor capital projects safely, on time and within cost.
  • Prepare designs, layouts, drawings, and bills of material for major maintenance, facility improvements, and other projects.
  • Define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
  • Perform verification and validation of new equipment / process to ensure results are achieved to the baseline.
  • Provide status reporting regarding project milestones, deliverables, dependencies, risks and issues to project stakeholders.
  • Maintain continuity of production by implementing a comprehensive, planned maintenance program for the production facilities.
  • Analyze the facility breakdowns and support equipment and implement preventative maintenance policies and procedures.
  • Works to optimize process requirements, cost, man-machine-process interface and EH&S factors using sound analysis and judgment.
  • Analyze, develop and recommend process changes necessary to meet production requirements. Develop detailed engineering plans to meet company objectives.
  • Introduce designs, drawings and specifications to Engineering and Manufacturing management. Prepare designs, layouts, drawings, and bills of material for major maintenance, facility improvements, and other projects.
  • Participate and give input on the purchasing of new equipment to ensure equipment meets all safety, quality and production standards.
  • Obtain competitive quotes for equipment and/or facility upgrades. The Plant and Maintenance engineer does not have the authorization to commit the company to any expenditure. All requests for expenditure must be approved in writing by a member of the management team.
  • Supervise construction and installation of new equipment. Prepare SOP and make sure permit condition requirement of local, state, Federal, Fire Department, Air Quality Management District (AQMD) etc. are maintained.
  • Provide standard operating procedures and specifications governing the operation and maintenance of facility systems and equipment.
  • Perform job duties and obtain training in accordance with our Quality Management System (AS9100).
  • Always exhibit exemplary conduct in dealing with other MCCFC CMD employees including any outside contacts. Contributes to the establishment and attainment of a positive, safe, and team-oriented environment.
  • May be assigned, and be expected to perform to acceptable standards, any relevant related duties as required by top management.
  • Follows safety rules and regulations to ensure a safe working environment.
Knowledge / Skills / Experience
  • A four-year college degree in Mechanical Engineering is required.
  • 5 to 10 years-related experience and/or training in the composites industry, or an equivalent combination of experience and training.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point and AutoCAD or similar design applications is required.
  • Experience with chemical or converting industry experience is a plus along with problem solving and ISO/AS9100 standards.
  • Working knowledge and hand on experience with factory automation using Allen Bradely PLC.
  • Multi-lingual skills in Japanese and / or Spanish are a plus.
  • Must have the ability to multitask and work under pressure.
  • Ability to create and maintain operating and training documents and manuals.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Verbally communicate one-on-one and in front of groups as necessary.
Pay Transparency (complete highlighted sections)
  • The salary range for this position is $94,000- $117,000. Factors such as scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, job-related skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and business considerations may influence base pay offered. This salary will be subject to a geographic adjustment (according to a specific city and state), if an authorization is granted to work outside of the location listed in this posting.
