Mitsubishi Chemical Carbon Fiber and Composites (MCCFC) is composed of several companies, but at its core there are two. In April 2013, two California Companies, Grafil, a carbon fiber manufacturer in Sacramento and Newport Adhesives and Composites, a prepreg manufacturer in Irvine, were merged to create Mitsubishi Rayon Carbon Fiber and Composites (MRCFAC); then in 2017, we re-branded to MCCFC. Since our merge, we have made multiple acquisitions within the United States. In addition to these acquisitions, we have continued to improve and expand our current facility’s capabilities. Mitsubishi Chemical Group, Carbon Fiber & Composites Division is looking for an R&D Scientist.  The R&D Scientist organizes, develops, and performs key research experiments to develop and improve products that meet and exceed customer requirements.  Come be a part of this dynamic team!!

What You Will Do...
  • Maintain compliance with all company policies and procedures.
  • Devises or develops new product and improvements of manufacturing processes and formulations, including patent development.
  • Analysis and testing of substances to support or verify composition or manufactured products.
  • Coordinates research and analysis activities according to applicable manufacturing processes, or other considerations, and evaluates modification of formulas, standards, specifications, and processes.
  • Reviews research, testing, quality control and other operational reports to ensure that quality standards, efficiency, and schedules are met.
  • Interprets results of laboratory activities to laboratory personnel and management.
  • Regularly advises management and technical of activities, new technologies, or competitive products or technologies.
  • Prepares reports and technical papers for publication in trade journals or other publications, when directed by management, or present at technical conferences and trade shows.
  • Provides support in customer service issues requiring lab support.
  • Keeps laboratory notebook neat, orderly, and according to legal requirements in securing patents.
  • Uses experimental design and mixture designs to develop robust new products or product improvements.
  • Generates application oriented data sheets and Material Safety Data Sheets for developed products.
  • Use of project planning to coordinate multiple projects, keeping management appraised of progress and meets schedules.
  • Keeps abreast of new resin and processes.
  • Perform job duties and obtain training in accordance with our Quality Management System (AS9100).
  • Exhibits exemplary conduct at all times in dealing with other MCCFC CMD employees including any outside contacts. Contributes to the establishment and attainment of a positive, safe, and team-oriented environment.
  • May be assigned, and be expected to perform to acceptable standards, any relevant related duties as required by top-management.
  • Follows safety rules and regulations to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Supervision of chemists and technicians when required;
  • Help to manage the team at director/manager's absent
  • Provide technical input on the selection of the developmental projects
  • Mentor and help chemists and technicians in technical and safety
  • The job responsibility for this position is highlighted complicated, with extremely serious consequences of errors
  • Slight supervision is required for this position
What You Will Have...
  • Minimum bachelor degree in chemistry with 10-15 years composite or adhesive formulation experience, required.
  • Master degree in polymer science, chemistry or material science,  Ph.D in polymer science, chemistry or material science is preferred.
  • 8-10 years related industrial experience.

The salary range for this position is $85,696 - $128,544. Factors such as scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, job-related skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and business considerations may influence base pay offered. This salary will be subject to a geographic adjustment (according to a specific city and state), if an authorization is granted to work outside of the location listed in this posting.
