Technical Service & Applications Development Engineer (1768)

Job Purpose

The Technical Service & Applications Development Engineer position is responsible for supporting the growth and development of the various PPD North American businesses by providing technical assistance and innovation to customers on part design, tooling, processing, and materials selection utilizing the various PPD products. Processing techniques can include injection molding, blow molding, extrusion, and others.

Principal Accountabilities
  • Develop PPD product knowledge to support new product initiatives, new application processes, and industry advancements for assigned processing areas.
  • Convey customer needs and requirements through call reports, program files, activity communications and maintaining internal COMOPPS (database resource to support business forecasts and program communication).
  • Assist in resolution of customer complaints, support new product developments and improvement efforts to satisfy customer needs and/or objectives.
  • Work with customer base to promote PPD products and establish best practices in terms of part design, tooling, and processing requirements for PPD products and applications.
  • Ensure feedback on resolution or requests for information is communicated back to the customer.
  • Develop and establish technical relationships with key personnel at customers including engineering community, process technicians, quality engineers and plant management.
  • Work closely with MCPP sales, marketing, R&D, quality, and production operations to support customer activities, developments and requirements.
  • Capture market intelligence at customers relating to new project/programs and competitor activities.
  • Implement and promote company policy and proactive mindset as it relates to safety measures during work and at the customer level.
Knowledge / Skills / Experience
  • 4-year Engineering (Polymer, Chemical, Mechanical) degree or equivalent technical related experience.
  • 5+ years’ experience in polymer processing (e.g., extrusion, injection molding, blow molding) in a technical service or processing engineer position.
  • Experience in working with plastics design, processing equipment, processing and tooling design for various applications required. Experience in specific resin (e.g., TPV, PVC, TPO) knowledge a plus.
  • Customer oriented and focus. Capability in communicating position with suggestions for changes and improvements and getting others to adopt them in difficult and challenging situations. 
  • Excellent communication skills required for the following areas: verbal, technical writing, presenting, creating call reports, detailing/initiation of instructions and effective communication of product guidelines for use of our PPD resin portfolio.
  • Ability to recommend products for new applications based on design and the end use requirements in balancing PPD capabilities with our customer needs. Also, general resin knowledge to support formulation development for new products working in conjunction with the R&D teams.
  • Strong project management skills as a team/individually to manage and track multiple customer projects over time; with coordination, setting priorities and time management skills to keep them on track and meet internal/external goals.
  • Demonstrates a strong commitment to the company core values, acts as a company advocate and a role model to others.
  • Familiar with OEM automotive specifications and material requirements.
  • Familiarity with other non-automotive industries such as building & construction, electronics, power tools, consumer goods, medical, etc.
Pay Transparency (complete highlighted sections)
  • The salary for this position is up to $126,000 depending on experience (Sr. Level). Factors such as scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, job-related skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and business considerations may influence base pay offered. This salary will be subject to a geographic adjustment (according to a specific city and state), if an authorization is granted to work outside of the location listed in this posting.
