Mitsubishi Chemical Carbon Fiber and Composites (MCCFC) is composed of several companies, but at its core there are two. In April 2013, two California Companies, Grafil, a carbon fiber manufacturer in Sacramento and Newport Adhesives and Composites, a prepreg manufacturer in Irvine, were merged to create Mitsubishi Rayon Carbon Fiber and Composites (MRCFAC); then in 2017, we re-branded to MCCFC. Since our merge, we have made multiple acquisitions within the United States. In addition to these acquisitions, we have continued to improve and expand our current facility’s capabilities. Job Purpose

Responsible for product quality by optimizing the manufacturing process and overseeing the QC lab.  Directly involved in product testing and process optimization, resolving production operating problems, analyzing equipment failures, developing and maintaining standard operating procedures, specifications and work instructions. Assists in designing, constructing, installing and commissioning new equipment. 


Principal Accountabilities


(Primary accountability for specific functions and results)


  1. Develops and monitors a total quality production control program to ensure cost-efficient production. Responsible for process setting, technical instructions to the production teams, QC lab management and product quality analysis.
  2. Responsible for production line and process troubleshooting to achieve/maintain compliance with product specifications and reduction in variations. Includes close monitoring of product characteristics and process parameters.
  3. Maximizes A-grade yield and production robustness, while minimizing unscheduled downtime and waste. Works with other managers on scheduling work during scheduled downtime for production, maintenance, engineering and contractors.  Maintains accurate downtime records and provides analysis and suggestions for improvements.
  4. Manages Evanston QC Lab operation to include timely and accurate testing of fiber production lines and any additional testing requirements, which includes:
  • Responsible for lab supervision (scheduling, maintenance, calibration, raw materials, scheduling, testing, certification, training, etc.)
  • Provide feedback to production of properties
  • Ensure safety and environmental requirements in QC Lab are met
  • Implement in process inspections
  • Implement and maintain SPC and process capability information
  • Implement improvements to Lab processes, including testing methods, equipment, sampling plans, etc.
  • Hands-on testing, as well as training a new lab technicians
  1. Analyze data and identifies existing or potential problems in our products including physical and chemical defects which many indicate flaws in the design of our process and/or products. Identifies and evaluates ideas for improving the efficiency of carbon fiber manufacture and product quality
  2. Designs process improvements. Leads and/or supports development/introduction of new or improved products
  3. Direct involvement in analyzing and resolving quality issues, including raw materials, etc.
  4. Creates and maintains a database of relevant production and product data and utilizes these to create in-house education tools
  5. Develops development tasks lists and priorities, develops work plans with relevant parties and monitors progress. Implements installation and commissioning of new equipment, prepares risk assessments and standard operation procedures. Prepares training materials and trains production operators on new equipment and procedures
  6. Develops project objectives and determines the specification of new productive equipment by reviewing project proposals and plans with team members, related department and other management in order to improve productivity or to resolve problems of the production
  7. Actively involved in communications across departments, other divisions, suppliers and customers
  8. Cooperates with ESH to improve safety & environment system, implement risk assessment to review the design of new equipment or the modification of the existing equipment with production, engineering, and maintenance and reflect the result of the risk assessment to it.
  9. Assists ESH department with safety instruction and training to employees about the production process, equipment, systems, and functions.
  10. Assists ESH department with measuring and maintaining environmental compliance with regulatory requirements. Establishes detailed operating instructions to control equipment in the environmental compliance system and trains employees on these
  11. Attends assigned meetings and prepares requested reports
  12. Exhibits exemplary conduct at all times in dealing with other MCCFC employees and any outside contractors (raw materials, suppliers, etc.) Contributes to a healthy, positive and safe environment. Promotes self as a team member.
  13. Employee may be required to work irregular and extended hours including 12-hour shift work
  14. May be assigned, and be expected to perform to acceptable standards, any other relevant related duties as required by management.


Knowledge / Skills / Experience

Education:  Bachelor’s degree in Engineering Discipline or equivalent experience


Experience:  Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in industrial manufacturing environment and detailed knowledge of carbon fiber manufacturing, preferred.


Specialized knowledge/skills/abilities for performance of job:  Ability to communicate effectively in English.  Ability to interact effectively with internal and external customers.  Excellent written and verbal skills.  Ability to operate office equipment to including Microsoft Office computer software, statistical analysis software and AutoCAD.  Knowledge of industrial safety and environmental best practices.
