After WWII, the original Mitsubishi organization was disbanded to become independent companies as they are today.

Job Purpose

The Director of Total Rewards is responsible for the development of the regional plan design, implementing, monitoring, and coordination of the total rewards program, while overseeing and directing a staff that supports the benefits, wellness, and compensation programs, policies, and procedures in support of the Regional Human Resources strategy.

Principal Accountabilities
  • Benefit & Payroll Administration
    • Plan, direct and supervise all activities/employees relating to administration and maintenance of payroll and employee benefits programs including retirement plans, group health, life and disability.
    • Serve as primary regional contact with providers for contract management and vendor negotiations. Develop, implement and administer programs in a manner that ensures cost effectiveness, marketplace competitiveness, and internal equity.
    • To work in partnership with respective investment committees, ERISA counsel and insurance consultants to assure company compliance with Federal, State and other regulatory agencies to limit company exposure to liability associated with fiduciary responsibilities.
    • Remain up-to-date on benefit and employment law changes and trends and proactively offer input on actions needed to remain compliant with U.S. employment laws, governmental agencies or fiduciary requirements as they pertain to U.S. employees and benefit plans.
  • Compensation Administration
    • Oversee regional compensation programs that address annual salary increase and bonus processes; analyze external wage and salary data to facilitate the development of a fair and competitive compensation package that addresses the business requirements of the respective regional group businesses.
    • Assist Vice President of Human Resources in the development and management of a regional benefit and compensation strategy in accordance with the overall objectives of the organization and support related actions across MCA affiliate businesses.
  • Compliance
    • Facilitation of required government reporting, non-discrimination testing and required employee communications.
    • Facilitation of required annual 401k plan audit.
  • Job holder serves as the Chairman of the Mitsubishi Chemical America Administrative Committee which administers the MCA Employees’ Savings Plan and Non-Qualified Top Hat and Deferred Compensation Plan.
  • Position is responsible for transitioning of remaining Mitsubishi Chemical US businesses to the MCA Welfare Benefit Plan, ADP database and 401k Plan.
  • Incumbent provides counsel and support to the Senior Leadership Team and HR Managers in the various areas of noted responsibility, making presentations as required to all levels of the organization.
  • Incumbent is responsible for benchmarking benefits and payroll practices/providers across the MCA US affiliates in an effort to gain efficiencies and potential cost savings through integrated activities.
  • Travel required-15%-20%
Knowledge / Skills / Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in related field and 10 or more years’ experience or Human Resources Management experience that includes in-depth knowledge of employee benefit plan design and administration, funding, legal compliance and compensation management.
  • Experience working within a fast-paced, complex, dynamic, multicultural business environment is preferred.
  • Human Resource accreditation and/or affiliation are an additional consideration.
  • Specific management experience in compensation planning, research, policy development and program design to include health and welfare benefits, retirement plans, base and incentive pay.
  • Knowledge of HR, Benefits, and applicable federal and state laws and regulations.
  • Expertise in Microsoft Excel and Word required. Demonstrated experience maintaining a HRIS required.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and strong interpersonal skills are a must
  • Ability to serve as a knowledgeable resource to the executive management team that provides overall company leadership and direction
