Job Purpose Plans and coordinates the Company’s Environmental, Health and Safety program requiring application of engineering principles and technology to analyze and control conditions contributing to occupational hazards and diseases by performing the following duties. Develops, implements, and maintains procedures and programs to minimize environmental risks and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.

Principal Accountabilities

The functions below are not all inclusive of the duties for this position.  Other responsibilities may be assigned as deemed necessary.

  1. Interprets data and observations to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry guidelines and advises management accordingly.
  2. Develops and implements programs and policies for monitoring and preventing chemical, physical, and biological hazards at the facility.
  3. Monitors the company's health and safety standards in compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
  4. Maintains the program and system to track and evaluate worker injuries. Works with TPA, MCO and BWC to manage all claims.
  5. Provides technical guidance to management regarding health or safety related issues.
  6. Develop and/or evaluate training programs for the workforce including a focus on behavioral based safety.
  7. Responsible for leading, monitoring and implementing RC14001.
  8. Supervise the EHS Coordinator. Responsibilities may include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  9. Manages environmental project activities including scheduling, tracking, and planning for environmental assessments, site investigations, feasibility studies, and remedial action plans.
  10. Develops and implements sampling and monitoring plans, which may include installing, operating, and maintaining equipment which monitors air, land, and/or water pollution levels.
  11. Evaluates current and proposed codes, standards, regulations, and guidelines to determine the impact on current and future programs and activities.
  12. Develops environmental compliance strategy(s) to meet regulatory requirements. Completes all required compliance reporting.
  13. Develops or provides input to hazardous material communications, including maintaining material data sheets.
  14. Maintains any required safety monitoring instrumentation and equipment.
  15. Maintains working knowledge of new developments in the industry and government regulations.
Knowledge / Skills / Experience
  1. Bachelor's degree from a four-year College or University; or 8+ years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  2. Ability to effectively communicate to all levels of the organization.
  3. CSP, CPR and First Aid, and OSHA 40 hour training a plus.
  4. Excellent communication skills to effectively communicate at all levels of the organization.
  5. Excellent computer skills - Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint).
  6. Knowledge of behaviour based safety programs.
  7. Knowledge of RC14001 a plus.
