Mitsubishi Chemical America, Inc. SoarnoL division is located in La Porte, Texas, and specializes in SoarnoL Ethylene Vinyl Alcohol Copolymer (EVOH). Additional manufacturing facilities for SoarnoL are located in Japan and the United Kingdom.

Noltex was formed in June of 1994 and purchased an idled Du Pont EVOH manufacturing facility in La Porte. Noltex began production of SoarnoL resin in early 1996 after retrofitting the first of our plant’s production lines.

Our plant primarily serves the needs of the North and South American markets, and supplements product needs in Oceania, Asia, and Europe. With a total annual production capacity of 38,000 metric tons, our EVOH product line includes a wide variety of specialty SoarnoL grades in order to better meet the increased demand for this unique gas barrier resin.

Job Purpose

Provide leadership and direction to accomplish the Engineering departments budgeting, goals and objectives. Lead the department in implementing process and engineering improvements and revisions for safety, environmental compliance, product quality, capacity enhancement, regulatory compliance, and cost reduction. Direct, manage and properly resource for approved engineering projects to ensure their success at meeting their respective objectives. Responsible for departmental and project adherence to PSM, SHE and other pertinent programs. Maintain, develop and mentor a competent and stable department staff. This position must work closely with the Manager – Maintenance, Manager – Operations Technology, Manager – Operations, and the Manager – Process Technology.

Principal Accountabilities
  • Effectively manage, train, interact and mentor a diverse technical workforce including engineers, BPCS professionals and contract support personnel.
  • Plan, direct and track the preparation and expenditure of the departmental budget.
  • Ensure proper implementation, maintenance and support of PSM.
  • Coordinate projects and activities with Operations, Process Technology and Maintenance.
  • Plan and direct activities of approved engineering projects and improvements to ensure they are properly designed and implemented according to MCA-SNL specifications, RAGAGEP and applicable state and federal regulations, remain on budget and on time.
  • Provide BPCS support for the manufacturing facility. Research and implement opportunities for improvement in regard to alarm management, process control and opportunities to enhance automated sequences for a more efficient operation. Responsible for system administration of overall BPCS. system and software maintenance.
  • Responsible for proper control and revision of pertinent PSI documentation including but not limited to P&ID’s, electrical one-line diagrams, loop diagrams, equipment files and other associated documents to reflect the current condition of the MCA-SNL facility.
  • Provide oversight for our Information Technology Team as I.T. Manager.
  • Participate as an active member of the MCA-SNL Leadership Team
Knowledge / Skills / Experience
  • Bachelors’ degree in a relevant Engineering discipline or appropriate professional experience with demonstrated abilities to perform at this level.
  • 5-10 years of Engineering department management experience.
  • Working knowledge of budgets and financial statements.
  • Requires the ability to manage multiple priorities and a diverse workforce.
