Mitsubishi Chemical America, Inc. SoarnoL division is located in La Porte, Texas, and specializes in SoarnoL Ethylene Vinyl Alcohol Copolymer (EVOH). Additional manufacturing facilities for SoarnoL are located in Japan and the United Kingdom.

Noltex was formed in June of 1994 and purchased an idled Du Pont EVOH manufacturing facility in La Porte. Noltex began production of SoarnoL resin in early 1996 after retrofitting the first of our plant’s production lines.

Our plant primarily serves the needs of the North and South American markets, and supplements product needs in Oceania, Asia, and Europe. With a total annual production capacity of 38,000 metric tons, our EVOH product line includes a wide variety of specialty SoarnoL grades in order to better meet the increased demand for this unique gas barrier resin.

Job Purpose

Support MCA-SNL’s EVOH business success by identifying and implementing MCA-SNL and industry recognized engineering standards for the technical aspects of mechanical maintenance work. Provides support to the various manufacturing units by identifying, engineering, and implementing mechanical solutions or improvements to equipment.

Principal Accountabilities
  • Project Management - Support overall mechanical systems and management of change, work closely with Operations and Maintenance personnel to troubleshoot mechanical (rotating and stationary equipment) problems. Provide second-level troubleshooting when equipment issues are beyond the technical knowledge of the Maintenance Technician.
  • Engineering Support – Act as Mechanical Resource with the Engineering Department for site capital projects to ensure that site policies, procedures, standards and specifications, and M&R needs are met.
  • Technical Support – When required, draft and submit Concept Papers for capital project ideas, write and submit sanction documentation for maintenance related capital projects (repair/replacements), and mark and approve drawings when required. Execute Management of Change (MOC) and complete design to define and implement improvements correctly and safely. Provide checkout and start-up support of facilities to meet production and business needs.
  • SHE Department Support – Participate in safety audits, safety investigations, keeping up to date on safety manual changes, participate in area Process Hazard Analysis/Reviews when required.
  • Administrative – Create and maintain documentation, files, procedures, and drawings to ensure integrity and continuity of site rotating and stationary equipment.
Knowledge / Skills / Experience
  • B.S. in Mechanical Engineering with 5+ years of experience is required in a chemical plant environment.
  • Knowledge of accepted Maintenance and Reliability best practices. Certification as a Maintenance and Reliability
  • Professional or Certified Reliability Engineer is desired but not required.
  • Knowledge of Process Equipment, including piping, valves, pumps, tanks, and pressure vessels, to enable determining the best technology, materials of construction, pressure, and flow calculations, troubleshooting.
  • Foundational understanding of Process Safety Management especially in areas pertaining to asset integrity.
  • Root Cause Failure Analysis training is preferred, but training will be provided.
  • Reliability-centered Maintenance understanding (FMEA, Asset Criticality, etc.).
  • Experience maintaining, troubleshooting, overhauling, repairing, and installing rotating machinery and stationary equipment.
  • Familiarity with centrifugal and positive displacement pumps, mechanical seals, and bearings.
