Mitsubishi Chemical America, Inc. SoarnoL division is located in La Porte, Texas, and specializes in SoarnoL Ethylene Vinyl Alcohol Copolymer (EVOH). Additional manufacturing facilities for SoarnoL are located in Japan and the United Kingdom.

Noltex was formed in June of 1994 and purchased an idled Du Pont EVOH manufacturing facility in La Porte. Noltex began production of SoarnoL resin in early 1996 after retrofitting the first of our plant’s production lines.

Our plant primarily serves the needs of the North and South American markets, and supplements product needs in Oceania, Asia, and Europe. With a total annual production capacity of 38,000 metric tons, our EVOH product line includes a wide variety of specialty SoarnoL grades in order to better meet the increased demand for this unique gas barrier resin.

Job Purpose

Detailed design, configuration, integration, and implementation of process control solutions for our manufacturing units including batch configuration, PLC / DCS systems, HMI packages, SCADA systems, Visual Basic and PC networking technology. Troubleshoot and maintain the existing plant I/E and control equipment for safe, efficient, and environmentally friendly plant operation. Provide technical support to project teams as it relates to process control, I/E design, and equipment specifications.

Principal Accountabilities
  • Project Management – Submit, manage, and retire Management of Change documentation paperwork as required. Specify I&E equipment for projects. Provide project estimates, manage project schedule and costs. Ensure design will meet project requirements.
  • Project Design – Provide conceptual design for approvals, and detailed design packages that are of “issue for construction” quality for I&E projects.
  • Regulatory Compliance – Participate in PSM process such as PHA reviews, Safety Audits, incident investigation and recommendation closure. Review and update PSM documents such as technical standards, P&IDs, loop drawings etc., as it pertains to I&E systems.
  •  DCS Reliability – Review DCS diagnostics routinely, determine root cause of the issues related to both hardware and software. Includes TCP/IP networks, servers, operator stations, controllers, I/O busses, and modules. Maintain all system hardware drawings. Review all knowledge base articles from Emerson for applicability. Manage system preventative maintenance program. Propose permanent corrective action and system upgrades as necessary.
  • Instrument Reliability – Tune regulatory control loops. Review Event Chronicle, PHV, AMS, Inspect, DeltaV diagnostics, and instrument diagnostics routinely. Determine root cause for issues related to regulatory control loops. Propose permanent corrective action to resolve.
  • Process Control Reliability – Design, review, configure, enhance, and document control system configuration for a Continuous/Batch process as it relates to daily operational support or project team implemented changes. Perform PLC and microprocessor database backups and modifications. Troubleshoot hardware and configuration. Includes SCADA and HMI systems.
Knowledge / Skills / Experience
  • 4-year degree in Engineering or Science, Required 
  • 5+ years of chemical plant experience in process control development and implementation
  • Knowledge of process manufacturing field instrumentation, technology, and batch process manufacturing expertise in all the following project phases: detailed design generation, implementation, system integration, testing and on-site startup support.
  • Working knowledge of electrical, instrumentation, control equipment, and chemical processes.
  • Good problem solving and communication and writing skills to understand complex issues and relate them to others in constructive ways.
  • Requires knowledge of process manufacturing field instrumentation, technology, and batch process manufacturing expertise in all the following project phases: detailed design generation, implementation, system integration, testing and on-site startup support.
  • Requires working knowledge of electrical standards and applicable codes.
