Bimax, recently joining the Gelest organization, is a manufacturer and marketer of specialty monomers
and polymers for use in the manufacture of contact lenses, intraocular lenses, personal care products,
coatings and adhesives, and other advanced technology applications is seeking an experienced Process
Development Chemist to be responsible for the development, scale‐up and support of chemical
processes to produce specialty monomers and polymers as part of their growing team.

Develop scalable laboratory procedures to synthesize monomers, polymers and other specialty
chemicals in equipment up to 12 liters
Convert laboratory procedures into processes suitable for operation in pilot plant reactors up to
50 gallons and production equipment up to 2000 gallons
Manage developmental projects using a phase‐gate system
Author material specifications for raw materials and products, trial batch requests, and trial
batch reports
Coordinate with customers and Production, Analytical, and Shipping & Receiving departments to
facilitate trial batches
Supervise, troubleshoot and validate developmental chemical processes
Serve as a technical contact for customers and vendors
Participate in laboratory safety meetings
Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, advanced degree preferred
Minimum five years of experience in a chemical production plant
Expertise in chemical process development involving multi‐hundred gallon batch reactors
Intermediate knowledge of classical organic chemistry and synthesis techniques
Intermediate knowledge of chemical purification techniques, especially distillation, crystallization, extraction and chromatography
Working knowledge of GC, HPLC, and UV‐Vis Spectrophotometry
Ability to safely handle and dispose of toxic, flammable, lachrymatory and/or corrosive chemicals
Ability to analyze data using statistical and other methods
Ability to effectively plan, organize and prioritize work activities
Ability to identify and creatively resolve problems in a timely manner
Ability to speak and write in a clear and informative manner
Ability to use soft skills to build relationships with internal and external customers
Familiarity with experimental design
Experience with continuous flow process technology
Familiarity with the ISO 9001 quality management system
