Job Purpose

The Production Processing Engineer is responsible for handling any technical matters for long glass fiber production process development, application and product development, and marketing. This responsibility includes improvement of process and productivity; analyze and evaluate finish products and raw materials in terms of physical, chemical and durability properties; provide exceptional customer service to resolve product quality issues; foster continuous improvement in material technology and support cost reduction solutions

Principal Accountabilities
  • Manage DOD process for GA Plant:
    • Create and implement new DOD for improvement of process and productivity, work with Operations team.
    • Create and implement new DOD to address problems at current commercial production.
    • Create and implement new DOD for necessary studies to meet new material specification and application, as well as quality improvement and cost reduction of current products.
  • Manage DOD inventory for GA Plant to goal, dispose of Raw Materials/Finished Goods upon completion.
  • Submit test requests for the material evaluation, interpret results and draw conclusions based on the established relationships between product properties and raw material components.
  • Develop new lab evaluation/testing capability for cost and time saving.
  • Develop new /equivalent raw material supplier through DOD study and supplier audit.
  • Initiate and approve Internal Waivers for processing improvement and cost reduction, as well as aged and transition materials consumption.
  • Initiate and approve deviation for material formula and/or process changing in commercial production to maintain good quality with cost competitiveness.
  • Maintain development schedule for assigned production lines and expedite a particular trial based on priority and approval.
  • Check production schedule and monitor the progress for assigned grades. Check analytical Lab test request schedule and monitor the testing progress for assigned grades.
  • Maintain the audit development record by preparing monthly report and bimonthly presentations.
  • Attend monthly internal Purchasing/Production and Sales joint-meeting.
  • Establish strong customer relationships by visiting, attending trials and promptly responding to requests and issues as they occur.
  • Attend on-going internal production trials in external production sites.
  • Initiate a MCN for introducing new raw materials and issue ROMPPs as needed.
  • Provide technical related support to other Mytex departments.
  • Communicate with JPP about any processing issues if it is necessary.
  • Provide tentative or final formulation for cost estimation and price quotation for customers.
  • Facilitate meetings with suppliers regarding new raw material development and in current market variability.
  • Create monthly technical report to VP, Technology.
  • Maintain a helpful and friendly working relationship with fellow employees.
  • Comply with all applicable customer, safety, ISO/IATF 16949 QMS, and ISO14001 EMS requirements.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned.
Knowledge / Skills / Experience
  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering or Science.
  • Experience: 10+ years’ experience in polymer science and proficiency in evaluating material properties.
  • 5+ years’ experience in the automotive plastics industry
  • Expertise in long glass fiber development
  • Strong understanding of plastics, molding, and the manufacturing processes of plastic.
  • Strong Organizational, Verbal and Written skills.
  • Experience with Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Ability to self-manage deadlines.
